The Smallest Gallery in Soho is delighted to present a new seven screen installation by London based artist Freya Tewelde. ‘The Parable of the Seven’ adopts the use of video as a medium conveyed across a visual instrument towards the emotions and the senses, working through movements of time and memory with the use of mundane objects.
The artist is seen using these objects in various ways, from boxing to fighting oneself; untangling chains of lights; fitting into small shoes; suffocating with various layers of clothing; to rollerblading in the dark whilst wearing shoes. The work performs elements of fetishism, absurdity and self-questions through moments of belonging and dissociation in beauty that co-opts humour as a vehicle to express the endless cycle of futile actions.
Within the gallery you will see 3 old television sets placed on plinths and 4 smaller screens hanging from the ceiling showing these scenes, looping throughout the day.
